Third part of the CPU benchmark project. This time starting with early Pentium 4 and Athlon XP Palomino and following the CPU development up to the end of 2003 when Athlon 64 launched.

Isolated power consumption of the CPU is measured directly on the 5V rail (or the P4 12V connector) of the PSU using shunt and two voltage meters. Most of the onboard components and even add-on PCI cards are powered from 5V rail in old computers. Therefore I used minimum possible configuration (no audio, no LAN, Matrox Mystique 220 instead of regular GPU) in order to measure power consumption of the CPU alone as accurately as possible. Of course this doesn't apply to platforms powered by additional 12V P4 connector. In this case measured power consists only of the actual CPU power consumption and losses of the VRM circuit.

The complete system (just the PC, without monitor) power consumption is measured using standard wall socket power meter. Values correspond to the full system configuration, as stated in the Test platforms chapter.
